Waimate muralist Bill Scott has begun work on his second image of Waimate history.
After completing a scene representing the 1854 meeting of local Maori, led by Te Huruhuru, with the area’s first European settler, Michael Studholme, in March on one of the 30m silos in Transport Waimate’s Queen St yard, Mr Scott has changed tack.
His second mural on the silos depicts a meeting between the New Zealand’s 29th prime minister, Waimate-born Norman Kirk, and a child at Waitangi, and spans two silos.
‘‘We changed the rules,’’ Mr Scott said.
The four Waimate historical figures to be honoured by his murals would be represented in three not four paintings. The second image was expected to be completed at the weekend.
