Rural Women NZ's fundraising account for the Stackhouse and Dodd families affected by the recent sheep killings at Ngapara has topped $20,000.
North Otago president Margaret Hore said as of yesterday, $20,400 had been donated for the cause, with money coming in from around the country.
Mrs Hore said Rural Women had no idea what to expect when they opened the fundraising account.
''It just shows how great people are in times of trouble,'' she said.
A special fundraising stock sale at the Waiareka saleyards in Oamaru on Monday raised about $22,500 for the Stackhouse and Dodd families, bringing the total amount to $42,900.
The Rural Women account will remain open for donations until the end of the month.
