About 100 people attended the official opening of Oamaru retirement village Observatory Village Lifecare on Friday.
Mrs Lomax spoke highly of the facilities, but said what had stood out for her was the friendliness of the staff.
Village general manager Rosie Dwyer said the opening event, which included Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher and incumbent MP Jacqui Dean, was about celebrating the project.
Construction began in January last year and the home welcomed 35 residents on August 8.
