A spate of vandalism at the Bushy Beach yellow-eyed penguin reserve on Oamaru's Cape Wanbrow has prompted police to appeal for help in catching the offenders.
Separate acts of vandalism have seen warning signs stolen, a picnic table thrown over the cliff and a lot of other damage, Constable Craig Sew Hoy said this week.
There had also been reports of youths throwing stones at the protected yellow-eyed penguins.
The parking area and reserve at the end of Bushy Beach Rd is relatively isolated, but attracts a lot of visitors who want to see the yellow-eyed penguins which nest in the Cape Wanbrow area.
Const Sew Hoy appealed to the public to report to police anyone seen causing damage in the area.
