Part of a $400,000 surplus collected by the Waitaki District Council for a three-bin kerbside recycling service may now be spent on other projects.
The council's corporate services committee will today consider spending about $300,000 of the surplus.
It will be spent mainly on projects involving recycling.
The surplus built up in the refuse collection account from part of a $122 a year charge for urban kerbside recycling collection in the district.
The council has since decided not to introduce the service, but the money was still collected.
