The "very high quality" of vegetable exhibits impressed judge Willis Warwick at the Kurow flower show on Friday.
Quality, colour and soundness were the attributes he was looking for and he said there were a lot of "photo-finishes".
"The exhibits this year are very hard to pick. A lot are very close," he said.
Floral judge Ray Lawrence described Jo Patterson's champion bloom, a striking pink lily, as "outstanding", pointing out its form and balance.
The Kurow Memorial Hall was filled with colour for the event, which began in the 1930s, went into recess and was resurrected in the early 1990s.
While children's entries were down, there was more baking, jams, pickles and photography than last year, committee member June Taylor said.
The stage was filled with a colourful patchwork display of quilts, cushions and bags.
Some of the quilts were destined for Ronald McDonald House.
