Volunteers at the shed have been working on converting the boat, which will have a 7.6m-tall mast, climbing ropes, ladders and a deck surrounding it.
''It's been re-everything - restored, rebuilt, repainted,'' Menz Shed member Terry Gloistein said.
He estimated volunteers had put in about 3000 hours working on the pirate ship.
Oamaru Lions' members had spent about 250 hours, not counting help from businesses, digging out a foundation and building supports to take the pirate ship.
It is a 50th anniversary project for the club and will have cost about $5000 once finished.
Now the pirate ship is in place, it will be fitted out before being opened for play.
