The roughly $15,000 addition to the Oamaru Harbour is a 4.2m×3m steel frame with wood cladding designed and assembled by Mr Baster.
The project was paid for by Canterbury Spinners, Tourism Waitaki and from the Waitaki District Council harbour and parks funds.
Mr Kircher unveiled what he called a ‘‘bookend'' for the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, as well as a piece of furniture and interactive art at 9am yesterday. He said the 8.4sq m platform affixed to the frame could be used as a stage at future street parties at the waterfront.
‘‘It'll get well used,'' he said.
‘‘I think people will enjoy it.''
