Opportunity to try Youthtown activities

An expo aimed at giving young people a chance to try out courses planned by Youthtown in Oamaru is being held at the Waitaki Recreation Centre on January 30.

From 1pm to 4pm, young people would have access to tutors and instructors for term 1 courses, Youthtown co-ordinator Mike Mullins said yesterday.

These include the inter-national kitchen with chef Rebecca Huston-Orme, your unique self - personal styling, 10-pin bowling, air brushing art, film and television skills, and skills for life.

Other programmes, including mountain biking on Orana Park and rock climbing on the recreation centre's wall, will also be on show.

Mr Mullins said most of the courses were aimed at year 5 to 13 pupils, although others such as the 10-pin bowling catered for children from 5 years upwards.

Entry is free and the aim was to encourage young people to sign up for the courses after "a quick trial", he said.
