A road safety course aimed at older drivers attracted so much interest in Oamaru more courses are needed to cope with demand.
The Staying Safe course had its first session on Monday and was full, with 20 drivers aged between 65 and 85 years taking part.
Course facilitator Derek Beveridge said there had been at least another 30 inquiries about the course and two more were being planned.
The free courses have been organised under the Waitaki District Council's road safety programme to help older people maintain their independence while also staying safe.
They cover building the confidence of senior road users using vehicles and mobility scooters, safety issues, increasing drivers' knowledge of road code changes, safe driving practices, other transport options, and a free practical driving course with an instructor.
Mr Beveridge said the most common concerns were the right-hand rule and when to give way, and confusion with the arrows at Oamaru's new traffic lights.
