North Otago hosting geomorphologists

Subjects as diverse as the Christchurch earthquake and the Kaikoura tsunami will be discussed by about 100 delegates at a geomorphology conference in Oamaru next week.

The Australian and New Zealand Geomorphology Group has organised its 14th biennial meeting in the Opera House, partially attracted by what the North Otago area has to offer.

It promises the region will appeal "to the most discerning of geomorpholigists", with field trips planned from the North Otago coast to Aoraki/Mt Cook.

The conference starts on Sunday with registrations at the Opera House, followed by a welcome function at Portside Restaurant.

Scientific sessions are planned for four days next week, with mid-conference field trips on Wednesday.

In addition, three-day pre-conference field trips are planned between Christchurch and Oamaru leading up to and at the end of the conference, which finishes on Friday, February 4.
