But as Waitaki Community Gardens general manager Sophia Leon de la Barra s stepping down at the end of the month, site and volunteer co-ordinator Ra McRostie will now be the main point of public contact for the gardens.
Ms McRostie said the restructuring now under way would include hiring a part-time administrative assistant as well as her taking on some new responsibilities.
''I'm not exactly the new face, but I'm very happy to continue to implement and develop ideas that play to the strength of this wonderful space as the outdoor classroom it was intended to be,'' Ms McRostie said.
''I feel very lucky to be a member of the community gardens team ... and gratitude to the amazing and varied people who bring their energy up here.''
She said she would miss Miss Leon de la Barra, who had been ''great company'' at the gardens over her four years there.
Miss Leon de la Barra said that after five and a-half years at the gardens she wanted to focus on other work, but would still continue as a consultant for grant writing, accountability reports, and programme evaluations.
She was ''100% positive'' Ms McRostie would continue offering strong programmes ''and keeping the gardens site flourishing and resplendent''.
She was ''so proud'' of what the team had developed on the site, including the education hub, the food forest, the gardens' education programme ''and our stunning volunteers''.
''I don't feel like I'm leaving, because I'm going to be here at the working bees every week, anyway,'' Miss Leon de la Barra said.
