A missing Oamaru teenager's mother has expressed concerns for her son's safety and, at the same time, warned the Oamaru public not to leave keys in vehicles because he might take them.
The mum expressed fears for her 14-year-old son's safety in posts in various Oamaru Facebook groups yesterday and on Sunday.
She described her son as Maori, of skinny build, about 165cm and last seen at 12.26am on Sunday. He was wearing a blue hoodie.
''I'm making this post to keep my boy safe and at the same time protect the Oamaru public,'' she wrote.
Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, confirmed police were looking for a 14-year-old boy who had gone missing from his mother's address in Oamaru.
''At this stage, we don't have any concerns for his safety. Although he's 14, he's very mature and streetwise for 14.
''He's previously been in trouble for dishonesty type offences, so we've got a few concerns there, so we're looking for that youth.''
Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to contact Oamaru police on (03) 433 1400.
