The Waitaki Mackenzie Merino Shears has been cancelled.
The shearing and woolhandling event was to have been held at Omarama on September 25 but there were not enough people to organise it and there were also some economic factors, committee member Greg Stuart said.
Mr Stuart, who manages Tara Hills, was the driving force in reviving the event two years ago. He was keen to see it revived to promote quality in shearing and woolhandling and provide a vehicle for community groups to fundraise.
The Omarama Shears, as it was then known, was previously last held in 2004.
