Meridian Energy has until November 27 to decide whether to appeal the Environment Court decision on Project Hayes.
It can appeal to the High Court, on points of law, within 15 working days of receiving the decision.
Meridian spokesman Alan Seay said a decision whether the company should appeal was "some time away yet".
"We need to take our time working through the [Environment Court] decision first," he said.
