A Hampden man brandishing an imitation police Glock pistol got himself in hot water on Saturday.
The 32-year-old was arrested after he presented the imitation firearm at a member of the public.
The man got his vehicle stuck on the side of the road about 3pm on Saturday, near Hampden.
He then took umbrage at residents who had witnessed his predicament, pointing the imitation firearm and allegedly attacking one of them.
Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said the firearm held by the man was an imitation of a police-issued Glock pistol.
The man appeared in the Timaru District Court on Monday on charges of presenting an imitation firearm and injuring with intent to injure.
■Inquiries are ongoing into a crash on Hampden Beach on Sunday which resulted in two people being flown to Dunedin Hospital.
The crash between an all-terrain vehicle and a motorbike on the beach about 12.35pm injured three people. Two were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
Sgt Woodbridge said because a beach was officially classified as a road, the incident was being treated as a Land Transport Act matter and inquiries were ongoing.
Police would await blood tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved before considering their next step.
■A 24-year-old Oamaru man was arrested and charged with contravening a protection order about 1pm on Saturday.
The man appeared in the Timaru District Court on Monday.
■Two people sustained minor injuries in a single-car crash on Devil’s Bridge Rd, just inland from Oamaru, just before 10pm on Saturday.
The driver, a 31-year-old Oamaru man, was arrested and charged with drink-driving and operating a vehicle with a sustained loss of traction.
He had a breath alcohol level of 688mcg.
