The Waitaki District Council has a big wish list to consider before it sets its final rates for the coming financial year.
The council's draft annual plan has an overall 6.4% rise in its total rates take, but the effect on individual properties varies.
The council proposes to collect almost $23 million in rates, compared with $21.548 million in the current financial year.
On Tuesday, the council heard about 40 submissions. After the submissions, the council drew up a list of additional projects it wanted reports on for its June 10 meeting, at which it will make final decisions about its budget and rates increase.
Reports were sought on issues including:
• The operation of rubbish transfer stations at Hampden and Otematata.
• Control of wilding trees on Ribbonwood Rd, near Omarama.
• A request from Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd for roadworks in relation to its proposed cement plant near Weston.
• Sealing part of Tutu Hill Rd on the outskirts of Oamaru.
• Coastal erosion protection, particularly the Oamaru foreshore between Redcastle Rd and the Oamaru harbour.
• Solid waste bulk charges at the Oamaru landfill.
• Claims the council collects more in rent than it spends on maintenance at community housing complexes in Oamaru, Hampden and Palmerston.
• Skateboard park proposals for Oamaru, Hampden and Palmerston.
• A programme for new footpaths in Kurow paid for by a loan, and its effect on the town's amenity rate.
• Upgrading the footpath at Omarama beside State Highway 8 between the hotel and The Wrinkly Rams.
