Network Waitaki electricity customers are to get a $2.67 million payout in the form of a discount on their monthly electricity bills.

The community-owned electricity lines company has 12,157 customers and makes an annual discount.

This year's is among its largest.

This means 10,338 customers will each get a discount of $179.48 on their next monthly power account.

Other discounts range from $218.56 each for 438 customers, to $2594.28 each for two others, depending on the electricity-use category into which they fall.

Network Waitaki chairwoman Clare Kearney said this year's discount was up on last year's, when the company paid out a total of $2.16 million to its customers by way of discounts.

Customers should see the discount on their electricity account this month or next, depending on which electricity retailer the account was with.

All the shares in Network Waitaki are held by the Waitaki Power Trust on behalf of its customers.
