Intermediate school's 50th taking shape

Plans are under way to mark 50 years since Oamaru Intermediate School (OIS) opened, but organisers are not sure how many people will attend the celebrations next year.

OIS first opened its doors in 1963 and a committee is organising a reunion to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Committee member Julie Pringle said organisers were accepting expressions of interest from those who wanted to attend the event, which would take place over Labour Weekend 2013, beginning on Friday, October 25.

"It is all going to go ahead. It is just a matter of how many people are going and what sort of venue we might need. We would just like to get an idea of how many people we are likely to be catering for."

Mrs Pringle said the reunion, which would involve a dine and dance evening, would provide a chance for people who might not have seen each other for half a century to renew old acquaintances.
