The Laird McGillicuddy, aka Graeme Cairns, of Te Pahu, near Hamilton, rides a penny-farthing along Brighton Rd, south of Dunedin, yesterday as part of "The Great South Seas Expedition''.
First held in 1998, this year's annual cycle tour organised by the Oamaru Ordinary Cycle Club started on the Taieri Plain and would finish in Oamaru to coincide with the Victorian Heritage Celebrations, organiser Graeme Simpson, of Oamaru, said.
This year's "relaxed tour'' for penny-farthing and vintage cycles only covered about 30km per day. The group, of about 20 riders plus support crew, travelled from Taieri Mouth to Dunedin yesterday on their third day of cycling and would tour the city today.
They will drive to Maheno tomorrow and cycle into Oamaru about 5pm.
The club had previously toured various places across the South Island and attracted international riders, Mr Simpson said.
"People are expected to dress reasonably traditionally as well - no Lycra.''
