A mystery hunting competition where teams will not know until the event what they will be trying to shoot is planned for Omarama from July 25 to 27.
The Hillbilly Hunt is a fund-raising event for the Omarama Rodeo and involves teams of between two and four shooters hunting animal species drawn from a hat.
Organiser Wendy Parsons said teams would gather at the Omarama Hotel on the Friday night where they would be given a list of three easy-to-find animals, such as hare or a bag of rabbits or possums.
They would not know until then what their three-animal bag would be.
Teams would then draw from a hat two animals that were more difficult to find, for example quail, goats or deer.
They would then have to shoot the drawn combination before the weigh-in deadline of 3pm on the Sunday.
After the weigh-in would be a roast dinner for all teams.
The first Hillbilly Hunt had 14 teams competing and, although there were fewer last year, Mrs Parsons said there had been a lot more interest in this year's event.
Teams could go hunting in whichever regions they needed to get the drawn animals.
