Great response means foodbank shelves full up again

The Oamaru Combined Churches Foodbank is once again fully stocked after a successful "Toot for Tucker" drive-by collection on the first Friday of the month.

North Otago Lions Club project convener Judy Phillips said the evening was a great success.

"Our shelves are now well stocked for the coming year."

Emergency services, community youth groups,various Lions club members, businesses and individuals took to the streets throughout Oamaru, Weston, Waitaki Valley, Omarama, Otematata, Kurow, Glenavy and Kakanui to collect the items left out by residents.

Ms Phillips said said the response was absolutely overwhelming, and she was grateful for the communities’ support.

"What a wonderful turnout once again.

"The community has always demonstrated its remarkable generosity by donating to the drive for the good of the community.

"The Oamaru Combined Churches Foodbank Team thanks you for your support."

Ms Phillips said the great response means the foodbanks shelves are now well stocked for the coming year.

"We wish you and your families a very happy Christmas," she said.

The Oamaru Combined Churches Foodbank is open every Friday from 10am to noon at 4 France St, Oamaru.
