Oamaru's health stocks have received a boost with the arrival of two new, permanent general practitioners to the town.
A new medical practice, Whitestone Family Practice Ltd, will open its doors in Reed St for the first time today, and company director Sandra Isteed said patient enrolments would start immediately.
''The practice staff are going to be Dr Daniel Then and Dr Martyn Howell, Karen Davidson, who will act as a nurse practitioner who works on an as-required basis, Carolyn Lister, who is a practice nurse with 20 years of experience, and myself as a practice nurse,'' Ms Isteed, a former unit nurse manager at the Iona rest-home in Oamaru, said.
Both Dr Then, from Green Island, and Dr Howell, from Dunedin, had acted as locums in Oamaru ''for some time''.
