A dinner this Saturday featuring former All Black Sir Brian Lochore will help the Omarama and Surrounding Communities Trust buy a new co-response vehicle.

Over the past 18 months, the trust has raised about $90,000 for the project, which includes buying a modern defibrillator.

A new Nissan Navara STX four-wheel-drive will be delivered about the end of this month, replacing a 1992 Toyota Hi-Lux.

The dinner and auction of "quality items" on Saturday is expected to raise $8000 to $10,000, which will be used to outfit the vehicle.

Trust chairman Craig Dawson said yesterday 93 tickets had been sold for the dinner, which was to be held at the Heritage Gateway Hotel.

The co-response unit is the first to attend a medical emergency, and its five ambulance-trained officers from the Omarama Fire Brigade provide medical treatment until an ambulance arrives.
