Onomatopoeia and colour are running rife with the Forrester Gallery’s newest exhibition.

"Pop Dash Splash!" opened in the community gallery in December, with seven paintings and three interactive displays.

The focus of the exhibition was on colour, Forrester Gallery educator Liz King said.

It has seven paintings from the permanent collection correlating to each colour of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet — and three activities.

People are encouraged to "pop" some Lego on the wall, "dash" with hand embroidery and "splash" colour on a hand drawn colouring page.

Mrs King said the exhibition was for people of all ages and could be good for families over the holiday period. There were also postcards of the seven colours for people to take.

Over the school holidays, there would also be three free days of activities.

The free, drop-in sessions would be held from January 23-25 from 11am-2pm.

On the 23rd, children could learn about London-based Italian artist Naomi Vona and create their own collage with colours and patterns inspired by her.

The next day would be an opportunity to create rose-tinted glasses — or any other colour glasses — while learning about colour theory.

To finish, there would be an opportunity to learn about different types of embroidery stitches and create an image using the skills.

"Pop Dash Splash!" will be at the Forrester gallery’s community gallery until January 28.
