Police responded to an alleged family harm incident about 12.37pm. Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy, of Oamaru, said a male in a vehicle attempted to flee the scene shortly after police arrived.
His car then hit a marked patrol car, which sustained damage to its rear, before crashing through the fence of a residential property.
The man was taken into custody and was helping police with their inquiries into the incident, he said. No injuries were reported.
