The Opera House in Oamaru was filled with 37 stalls from local major businesses, trainers, careers advisers and tertiary education providers for the Waitaki Careers Expo on Thrusday, the first to be held in Oamaru.

About 500 secondary school pupils, along with the public, attended the Waitaki Development Board-funded expo.

One of the organisers, Gary Kircher, said it was likely the expo would be repeated.

"We have handed out survey forms to all those taking parts to get feedback on the venue and what they would like in the future," he said.

Many of the stalls offered hands-on experiences to those who visited, while Careers Services consultant and television's Just the Job presenter Sarah McIndoe officially opened the expo and spoke during the day. She is also visiting secondary schools in Palmerston and Oamaru.
