Fire brigade's TV debut tonight

The Palmerston Volunteer Fire Brigade will make its television debut at 7.25pm today on the new TVNZ6 series Volunteer Power.

The brigade was last month filmed by a TVNZ6 crew to feature in the television series, which tells the stories of visionary and award-winning projects operating in New Zealand communities.

The brigade is one of 25 groups featured in the series, which follows the supreme winners from the regional TrustPower Community Awards. It won the Waihemo award in September.

Brigade spokesman Geoff Davis said the filming and today's screening of its episode had created a real buzz in the town.

"Hopefully, it will encourage people to take up the challenge of joining their local volunteer fire brigade, or any other voluntary organisation," he said.
