Feedback on dogs

Public consultation on proposed changes to the Dog Control Policy and Bylaw has opened.

Proposed changes to the policy and bylaw include a recommendation that menacing dogs be neutered, how a dog owner can apply for selected owner status and providing rules about responsible dog ownership.

''We are also proposing that some restrictions are lifted on where dogs can be walked off a lead and how far away from playground equipment dogs need to be kept,'' Regulatory Services manager Lichelle Guyan said.

Mrs Guyan is encouraging anyone that has an interest in dog issues to consider the proposed changes and make a submission.

''This is a good time for people to ... make comments on the proposed changes,'' she said.

The consultation period opened yesterday and closes at 5pm on July 28.
