A tribute to the 67-year-old pedestrian killed in a horrific crash in Oamaru has been placed at the scene by his family.

Flowers and a card for Gerald James Cowley, who lived in Waikouaiti, were affixed to a pole in Thames St near where an elderly driver's car mounted a kerb and struck at least two pedestrians at speed, killing Mr Cowley, late on Monday morning.

The card reads: "Dear Dad - Gerry, You have always been our rock. Taken suddenly and way too soon, forever in our hearts and thoughts. Loved so so much. xxooxxoo.''

The card was signed by family members.

After the crash police asked for witnesses to come forward.

Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy, of Oamaru, said yesterday the investigation was ongoing.

"We haven't progressed it any further at this stage. The inquiry is still continuing with people being spoken to,'' he said.

A 70-year-old woman who suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Dunedin Hospital was released from the hospital on Thursday.

The Cowley family declined to comment yesterday.
