Employment laws meeting

A national union has called its members to a meeting in Oamaru today to discuss proposed changes to employment laws which could have an effect on them.

The National Distribution Union has about 100 members in North Otago, most at Summit Wool, Countdown supermarket and The Warehouse, but because of shiftwork it expects about 40 to attend the meeting in the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel from 10am.

They will hear about the Government's proposed changes to the Employment Relations and Holidays Acts, which include issues such as expanding the 90-day trial period for new workers, taking payment for one week of holidays, and changes to sick-leave provisions.

The meeting is limited to members and is not open to the public or media.
