The Severn St building, where the church has been based since the early 1990s, has been on the market for about a month.
Mr Downing said the decision to sell was not made lightly, but was necessary in light of the church's growing congregation and the desire to continue its work with the community.
''For us, this is a great building and it has served us well since the early '90s as a church and it would probably serve us for another decade, as well.
''With the children's programme and the number of people attending [church services], we are looking for something a little bit bigger. It's so we can bless the community with more programmes for families and help with budgeting and marriage and so on.''
The church had looked at the former Limelight Cinema building, which closed in October last year and has remained vacant since, one of several the church had considered over the past several weeks.
''Obviously, it's for sale and we have looked at it, but we are looking at other sites, as well. But, obviously this building has not been sold. We are just really beginning the process.''
He said a ''number of people have expressed interest'' in the two-storey, 730sqm building on 630sqm of land.
