About 150 primary and intermediate school teachers will attend a teaching and learning conference in Oamaru next month.
It was too expensive for North Otago schools to send teachers to such conferences in the cities so organisers were "bringing the conference to the teachers" from September 28 to 30, one of the organisers, Deidre Senior, said.
The focus was educating children of the 21st century, looking at keeping teachers up to speed with modern teaching practices, thinking and the use of information and communication technologies.
The keynote speakers will be Dr Jeni Wilson from the University of Melbourne, Michael Pohl from Adelaide, and clinical psychologist and author Nigel Latta, from Dunedin.
It was one of the few conferences in the country to have received "focus event" status from the Ministry of Education, recognising the partnership it was creating among the schools in the North Otago area.
Of the 150 attending, 50 were from outside the district and they would be given a taste of North Otago, Mrs Senior said.
