St John communications adviser Ian Henderson said a woman was flown to Dunedin Hospital’s emergency department with serious injuries.
Earlier, Constable Rory McGeown, of Oamaru, had said the injured woman was taken to Oamaru Hospital.
The woman was driving a green Toyota Platz and a man, who was uninjured, was driving a white Agco ute. Const McGeown said it was too early to say what caused the collision, but he said alcohol was not suspected and he was "pretty certain" speed was not a factor.
It appeared that in the "T-bone" crash the ute clipped the Toyota, he said.
The woman was trapped in her car for a short time and fire crews from Weston and Oamaru volunteer fire brigades helped lift her out.
