A 35-year-old Oamaru man handed himself into police on Thursday night, after fleeing from the scene of a crash earlier that day.
At 4.10pm on Thursday, there was a collision involving three vehicles at a set of traffic lights in Oamaru's North End.
Community Constable Bruce Dow, of Oamaru, said the front two vehicles had stopped for a red light, but a third vehicle failed to stop and crashed into the back of the car in front of it, pushing it into the vehicle at the front of the queue.
The middle vehicle was extensively damaged, but no-one was injured.
The offending driver fled from the scene.
''He was seen heading north on Thames St and was also seen heading north on Taward St shortly afterwards with a front spoiler dragging on the ground, so he obviously sustained frontal damage,'' Const Dow said.
He voluntarily presented himself at the Oamaru Police Station at 9.17pm on Thursday night.
Investigations were continuing and charges were likely, Const Dow said.
