The bridge, over the Waihao River, had been closed due to flood damage and had been realigned, Waimate District Council roading assets manager Rob Moffat said.
The next step was to do some economic evaluations and look at replacement options. There was no time-frame for that, Mr Moffat said.
He was "reasonably hopeful" the bridge could survive a reasonable flow if there was heavy rain.
It was pleasing to have it opened before the start of the whitebait season, he said.
There were still some flooding issues in the Glenavy area, following the floods two months ago.
Drainage in Fisheries, Andrews and Morven Beach Rds was to be addressed, he said.
