Waitaki Girls’ High School pupils Charlotte Nichols (18, left) and Breanna Stewart (17) prepare to hitch a ride in a 1950 Bedford truck for Daffodil Day.

The pair were among a group Waitaki Girls’ pupils teaming up with the North Otago Vintage Car Club to deliver pre-bought bunches of daffodils to Oamaru businesses yesterday to support the annual Cancer Society fundraiser.

Breanna said Daffodil Day was a "really good cause" and a chance for the pupils to share the message with the wider community.

About 8000 daffodils were bunched by volunteers at the Scottish Hall yesterday morning before being delivered to about 200 businesses.

Daffodil Day Waitaki area co-ordinator Amy McCulloch said the community had been very generous this year.

"There’s been huge support from everyone," she said.

There will be eight stalls in Oamaru, and three in the Waitaki Valley, selling flowers for Daffodil Day on Friday.
