The problem of sewage disposal at Hampden has again prompted a request for funding from the Waitaki District Council for another investigation.
A working party set up in 2006 to investigate a reticulated sewerage scheme for the coastal township has approached the Council through its long-term council community plan process requesting up to $28,300 for an investigation into other disposal methods.
Some properties in Hampden have problems disposing of sewage, with some septic tanks failing.
A consultant's investigation into a reticulated scheme calculated it could cost ratepayers between $2067 and $3389 each a year in rates for a reticulated scheme.
That was deemed too expensive.
In its submission, the working party said it wanted to explore a septic tank and cluster system solution to sewage disposal in Hampden, with the council bulk-buying equipment and implementing a loan scheme for ratepayers to upgrade.
Community services manager Richard Mabon said that needed further investigation.
A report would be prepared for the council's meeting on May 26 which would provide more information.
Mr Mabon suggested if a solution was found for Hampden's sewage it could be applied to other towns in the district which had problems but could not afford a fully reticulated scheme.
