Christmas holiday festival back on and revved up

Kurow is reviving its festival, making it bigger to provide entertainment and activities for locals as well as holiday-makers who pour into the area during the Christmas period.

It was felt the annual festival had paled in past years and it was decided to revive it, organising committee chairman Graham Hill said.

In a break from recent tradition, Market Day will not be held on the Kurow race day but on December 31.

"The plan is to close off a section of the main street and fill this with all manner of fun," he said.

The festival itself is now over the whole week. The Kurow Race Day will still be on November 30.

"Market day this year is going all out to stand on its own on New Year's Eve day," he said.

Stall convener co-ordinator Pam Currall has high hopes for Market Day, based on the interest from 60 or more new and previous stall-holders.

The resident band Coyotes will play, along with up-and-coming artists, with prizes for best individual artist, duo or group and best original song. Buskers are welcome, with a prize for best entertainer.

The festival runs for about a week with clubs and organisations running competitions and special events.

More information can be found on the Kurow website or the Kurow Museum and Information Centre.
