Over the past two years, Carey Lister has been the trust's general manager and also managed the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel with Millennium Hotels and Resorts.
He told the Otago Daily Times yesterday he would be redeployed ''into other operations around the country''.
Mr Lister confirmed the agreement would end on October 1.
''It was a mutual exit, really for the benefit of the trust to help reduce their overheads,'' he said.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand vice-president of operations Karl Luxon said in a statement: ''We have enjoyed working alongside the Oamaru Licensing Trust board and we wish them all the success with their future plans.''
Mr Brosnan said he could not disclose how Mr Lister's role would be replaced but it was ''work in motion''.
''We will bring that in-house and have our own management structure.''
The trust would hold meetings from this week on to form a ''direction for moving forward'' he said.
Management of the trust was returned to Oamaru by the Ashburton Licensing Trust in 2011.
When Mr Lister came to Oamaru in June 2011 to manage the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel with Millennium Hotels and Resorts, he acknowledged he faced a challenging role as the trust's general manager.
The trust's financial performance came under public criticism after it recorded a loss of almost $1.5 million for the 2010-11 financial year and a $512,000 loss in the 2009-10 financial year.
