Chance for say on parks

Public comment on a draft plan that outlines how Waitaki's parks and reserves will be managed closes on June 4 and the Waitaki District Council wants to ensure everyone has a chance to have a say.

The draft Waitaki Reserves Management Plan sets out how parks and reserves are managed and what activities are appropriate. It proposes changes to some parks and reserves, including the Oamaru Public Gardens and Cape Wanbrow, a smoke-free policy in playgrounds, sportsfields and the Oamaru gardens and changes to dog control on some reserves.

Reserves manager Erik van der Spek said the draft plan was intended to provide a common understanding on management of values and to ensure appropriate protections.

''We would like the people of the Waitaki district to carefully consider the proposals, how they might impact on them, what they would like to see changed and how they see reserves being used.

''We have some wonderful reserves, parks and recreational areas so it's important that people take the time to consider the proposal and have their say.''

Included are concept plans for forestry harvest areas at Cape Wanbrow, Glen Eden, Glen Warren, Moeraki and Hampden.

Information is available on the council website, service centres and libraries.
