Cape open to public

Harvesting of wind-damaged trees on the Cape Wanbrow reserve has been completed and the reserve is once again open for public recreational use.

Waitaki District Council parks officer Mike Kwant said that, despite two days of strong winds hampering operations, the logging contractor ensured a quick and efficient harvest of the remaining gully trees.

Firewood permits to collect free firewood at Cape Wanbrow would once again be available, starting on Monday.

The free permits, only available for firewood for personal use and not for sale, have proved popular, with all available permits from the first harvest going quickly.

People wanting a permit can apply at the council office in Thames St, Oamaru.
