Three bridges in the Oamaru Public Gardens, damaged by flooding more than a year ago, may finally be repaired if the Waitaki District Council approves funding today.
The Croquet Bridge, between the gardens and the Oamaru Top 10 Holiday Park which provided vehicle access to the southern end of the gardens, the Chinese and the stone bridges were damaged when flooding in May last year scoured the banks of the Oamaru Creek.
The Croquet Bridge was so badly damaged it was closed and is overgrown by trees. If work is not done on the other two, they could also be closed.
Council recreation manager Erik van der Spek said design, resource consent and other costs to repair all three bridges totalled $181,240.
The council had approved use of $135,000 from the disaster fund for the repairs, but additional money was needed.
Today the council is being asked to make an additional $50,000 available from the disaster fund.
