Breakneck Rd bridge work detours

A $393,000 project by the Waitaki District Council to replace the Breakneck Rd bridge leading into the Herbert Forest will mean 16 weeks of alternative access for people who own homes in the area.

The bridge crosses the Waianakarua River at Graves dam.

Work is due to begin at the end of this month and be finished by the end of June.

Roading assets manager Michael Voss said the council had been in contact with local residents to advise them of the project and the detour in place for the duration of the project.

"During construction of the new bridge, the road over the bridge into the Herbert Forest will be closed and a detour in place via Road Metal Otago's gravel pit and Reid Rd. This will be clearly signposted and maintained by the council, and an alternative detour is also in place," he said.

Mr Voss said the bridge replacement had been scheduled for several years and was expected to take about 16 weeks to complete.
