The annual show, a major event on the society's calendar, was moved forward a week this year after exhibitors complained when it was held a week later last year.
But, even so, bad weather has bedevilled exhibitors' preparations.
Weeks of windy weather, including strong northwesterlies, was capped off on Wednesday by a sudden cold snap with heavy hail.
Experienced exhibitors had already started to prepare for the show to minimise the climatic effects, some cutting daffodils up to three weeks ago and refrigerating them so they were still in top condition for this weekend.
But society president Connie Rayne said the Scottish Hall in Tyne St would still be a blaze of colour for the show.
"The best of the spring daffodils will show some spectacular blooms, a far cry from the ordinary blooms of yester-year," she said.
Growers were now paying $80 or more for a bulb of their choice.
There would also be cut flowers, pot plants, hanging baskets, floral arrangements, vegetables, fruit and nuts.
North Otago Orchid Club members also support the show.
A photo section, now included in the event, creates a lot of interest, with six categories and a similar number for juniors (up to 12 years).
The show starts today and continues tomorrow. It officially opens 2.30pm.
