Lake Aviemore will be a blaze of colour this weekend when 100 yachts or more, of all shapes and sizes, are expected to contest the 21st Meridian Aviemore Classic.
It is New Zealand's biggest trailer yacht event and freshwater race.
Numbers have been boosted by two championship events which will be sailed on Saturday before the all-in Aviemore Classic on Sunday.
Race secretary Charlie Norton, of Timaru, said entries were "looking good" for the event, with 67 received so far from around New Zealand. That was better than at the same time last year, and more were expected.
It was likely more than 100 yachts could take part in the classic - equalling or bettering the previous record.
Entries had been boosted by the New Zealand Trailer Yacht Association championship and the South Island Noelex 25 championship, to be raced on Saturday.
On Sunday, the classic is held over a triangular course starting at Parsons Rock, heading to the dam, back to Waitangi and the start-finish lines.
Yachts complete the course twice, which can take most of the day, depending on the weather.
