Bid to stop Cape Wanbrow project fails

An attempt to have the Waitaki District Council abandon plans to develop a 27-section subdivision on Cape Wanbrow has been thwarted temporarily by procedural difficulties.

Cr Helen Stead filed a notice of motion for the council's recent rates meeting which, if passed, would have stopped the Forrester Heights subdivision going ahead.

However, the notice of motion, which had three recommendations, did not meet standing order requirements that it be lodged five days before the meeting.

Council chief executive Michael Ross received it only two clear days before the meeting.

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton explained to Cr Stead before the meeting that it would not be accepted.

However, Cr Stead still intends to pursue the matter when the council receives a report on the subdivision as a result of some public submissions on the council's 2010-11 draft annual plan which urged the council not to go ahead with Forrester Heights.
