About 700 objections have been received to 43 proposed changes in electoral boundaries for next year's general election, but how many relate to the Waitaki-Dunedin North alteration is not yet known.
The Representation Commission last month released its proposed changes for public objections, leaving 27 electorates as they were, making changes to 43 others and creating a new electorate in Auckland.
In the South, the biggest change is to the Waitaki and Dunedin North electorates. Dunedin North was under quota in terms of population allowances, the commission extending it north, taking Palmerston, Hampden and Herbert from Waitaki.
Objections to boundary changes closed on Monday.
A commission spokeswoman said about 700 objections had been received from the whole of New Zealand, but how many related to Waitaki and Dunedin North would not be known until they were analysed.
On January 14, objections would be published on the Election NZ website, calling for counter-objections, which would close on January 29.
After considering those, the commission will publish the final boundaries on April 17.
