A man who was allegedly bearing a firearm in Stonewall Rd last week is in custody.

Senior Sergeant McCoy said a 33-year-old Oamaru man was arrested following the incident last week Thursday and subsequently charged with threatening to kill, committing a burglary and injury with intent.

"Staff took precautions in relation to those offences and the cause of the arrest," he said.

The alleged offender has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 13.

A spate of car thefts continues in North Otago.

In the latest, two cars were broken into in Oamaru last weekend.

Sergeant Blair Wilkinson said a radar detector was stolen from a car broken into in Hull St overnight Saturday.

"A window was smashed to gain entry."

On Friday night or Saturday morning, a car in Slade St had its lock forced and a bag was stolen, Sgt Wilkinson said.

Then on Tuesday, a vehicle was stolen and recovered within an hour in the North End.

Snr Sgt McCoy said the car went missing from Forth St after 8.30pm. It was found an hour later in Lynn St.

"If anyone saw that white Mazda around Forth or Lynn St in that timeframe, Constable McAnally would love to hear from them," Snr Sgt McCoy said.

A 19-year-old male driver who recorded a breath-alcohol level of 250mcg on Thames Highway on Sunday will appear in the Oamaru District Court on November 13.
