Southern Lakes Helicopters pilot Sir Richard ``Hannibal'' Hayes, of Te Anau, is made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to search and rescue and the community by Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae at a ceremony at Government House in Wellington yesterday.
Sir Jerry also congratulates Sir Richard's brother, former Clutha mayor Juno Hayes, of Milton, an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (for services to local government and the community); former Otago regional councillor Duncan Butcher, of Cromwell, for becoming an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (for services to local government and the community) and Ann Barsby, of Dunedin, who received a Queen's Service Medal (for services to local government and the community).
